West Wolds Slow the Flow Logo

We have been working in partnership with "West Wolds Slow The Flow". Using natural habitat management techniques we aim to reduce the impact of flooding by creating features such as leaky dams, scrapes adjacent to watercourse and coppicing willows using the material to "roughen" the valley floor.

We have also created a swale (pic 2 below) which takes flood water away from a built up area into a grass field where it can be filtered before entering the chalk stream.

Creating a scrape (pic 1 below) with pools and sinuous channels to vary the habitat and slow the flow.

Diverting flood water to protect the local chalk stream and slow the flow.

A simple leaky dam (pic 3 below). A series of these within a catchment can help to reduce the speed at which flood water reaches inhabited areas and reduce the chance of flooding.
